An outbreak of the runs...Jan. 29-Feb. 4

Actually, I didn't even run today--had a 10-hour clinical day so just wasn't able to fit it in. I just saw that nobody had started the thread yet!

4 km in the snow yesterday, another perhaps 7 today? We'll see what the new running partner has in store. It's rest week anyway so I hope she's not thinking anything hard!

I've been running outside on Sundays--usually about three miles--with a group of friends since early January and doing run/walk intervals twice a week after spinning at the Y. After a few more or less "successful" weeks of this, I started to feel like the intervals causing a bit of a mental block. My friends motivate me to run without stopping, but when left to my own devices, it's harder to keep at it, especially when that speed button on the treadmill is glaring at me.

Last night, I challenged myself to run on the treadmill for as long as I could without stopping. I made it to 19 minutes before slowing to a walk for about 50 seconds. Then I ran for another 6 minutes before the tornado sirens (we had some really crazy weather last night) sounded and we had to take shelter. All in all, I'm pleased that I got over that hump.

Yikes! That is one thing we don't have to worry too much about in this part of the country. At least you weren't running outside when the sirens went off--that would be scary!

Seriously. At least four people died last night in southern Indiana. One town west of Indianapolis reported winds in excess of 80 mph. It was pretty intense.

Shoe shopping yesterday. I hope I didn't make a mistake going to a slightly less stable shoe. My arches hurt last night, this morning and after my run today. The good news is that my heels/Achilles don't hurt

Four miles for me this morning - earlier than I usually go, so I got to watch the seniors doing T'ai Chi on the beach, always an inspiration. It was a really beautiful day (aside from a bunch of dead rays washed up on the sand, which at least was interesting since it was something I hadn't seen before ). It was my first run since the 5K on Saturday (active rest Sunday, aerobics Monday and yesterday) and my legs were kind of sore, but I kept up a reasonable pace.

The reason I did my run early is because I was taking advantage of my last Christmas present: a SPA DAY! I got pampered from head to toe.
