Hot Buttered Runs (July)

About four and a half yesterday, just testing out a new lacing pattern for my shoes (it didn't really help, but wasn't bad), and 11 today. Dang it's hot and humid. I really meant to get out before the hottest part of the day, but I watched the MotoGP race, then had to get my laundry hung out, procrastinated a little, and before I knew it it was nearly noon.

I couldn't decide whether to do the 12-mile loop that I didn't feel quite in shape or heat-acclimated enough to try, or a shorter one, so I set off on the 12-miler, but walked the rest of the way in once I'd got halfway up my road. Felt pretty much all right. But I still can't decide about Columbus marathon.

Well, it finally decided to become summer here in the Southwest. All next week the highs will be over 100 degrees F. So needless to say, I have not been doing my early AM runs. We get up about 5 am but even then the low is 75-80

I'm having a hard enough time staying hydrated during the day when I'm inside in the AC.

I'm hoping that maybe by August the temps won't be so bad. I could be totally wrong on this hope. But there is always hope, right? If its cool, strangley enough, I don't mind getting out there and running or fast hiking in my case.

Red Rock, have you considered run/hiking at night? I love running at night in the summer. But then I love to run in the dark in the winter, too. Go figure.

I'm running a little, not much. Still rehabbing the leg but it's getting better. I'm on the wait list for a 50k in August but I'm thinking that, if I do get in, I will decline to run and just volunteer instead. I've been doing short bike rides in between my short runs, and while it's been nice to do something different, it's not helping my fitness for running 50k in a month.

I hate getting out of running shape!

Went for a trail run yesterday. It was hot, but I had enough water, so I was OK. It's nice to finally have some snow-free trails.

Ok, have not been posting much lately. Training plan is been sporadic lately do to a few things and I am in crunch mode (more on that later). Just wanted to share that I did the Peachtree Road Race 10K in Hotlanta this July 4th. Me and 55,000+ people. It was awesome. Super organized. Yes it was hot, but not unbareable. I was running w/ my SO, so it was a slower pace than I normally run, that may of been why it was so enjoyable. Had a great time, would definitely do it again! If it is on anyone's bucket list...then do it!

Work schedule sucks this week and I am doing OT, so my running schedule is not so great. 44 days til PPA (OMG ). Just doing 12 this Saturday and then get back to the grueling TM incline and hill repeats next week.

So my heel pain has only gotten worse even though I keep taking a lot of days off and doing easy trail runs. I think I am going to have to quit running for awhile! Guess I'll just have to bike more for now.

Intervals on Tuesday, and an easy four today. I'm getting the feeling it's the air quality I'm struggling with as much or more than the heat.

Not sure what to do about that. I HATE air conditioning and I HATE cardio machines.

Lime, that stinks. Hope you get it sorted - good thing you still have the bike!

Kat, 55,000 people in a 5K?

I can't even imagine that! Do they send you off in waves? Have the last people started before the first ones finish???

Lime, have you tried icing your foot/heel? I have had some arch going heel pain. When it was really bad I was icing after runs. And don't forget your anti inflammatories like ibuprofen or naproxyn...take them on a regular schedule.

Oak, it was a 10K & trek think a full alphabet of waves. Tons of people finishing well after we did and my group was L. But very fun. I even had a small Dixie cup of beer on the run!
