how long do shoes last?

Hey all,

since I know live two miles from work, I've been hooffing it.

been wearing out my "dress" shoes, so i went to "Richard's" (goes by another name, but te won't let me use it.) and got a pair of new balance 580s

My question is when should I budget for new shoes. I imagine I'll be taking the bus (reduces my walk time to about quarter mile) from Nov to March.

The best thing I ever learned about how to make shoes last is to not wear the same pair every day. I'd get a second pair of walking shoes sooner rather than later and alternate them.

Hahaha my sister and I call that store *bleep* Sporting Goods

Alternating shoes certainly helps. The estimate of how long running shoes last depends on how the shoe is made and the running style of the wearer, but ranges from 200-500 miles or 3-6 months. I don't know about walking shoes. But the best way to know is just to go how they feel and how you feel in general after wearing them. They'll tell you when they're starting to go - maybe your feet won't hurt, but you'll feel a twinge in your knee, or your hip, or your back - something.

I've been wearing the same trail shoes for the past, oh, 11 months? I think I decided today that they're probably close to done, but because they aren't a very squishy shoe to begin with they've lasted longer than most.
