After earning a series-low 1.2 million viewers for its UFC 111 broadcast, Spike TV's "UFC Prelims" broadcast for this past weekend's UFC 114 event increased 33 percent to 1.6 million viewers, MMAjunkie.com ( www.mmajunkie.com: www.mmajunkie.com ) today confirmed with an industry source.

The two-fight May 29 broadcast, which featured Dong Hyun Kim vs. Amir Sadollah and Efrain Escudero vs. Dan Lauzon, qualifies as the second-highest ranked "UFC Prelims" episode in the history of the series, ranking only behind February's UFC 109 edition.

UFC 114 took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, and the "UFC Prelims" broadcast served as a teaser for the night's pay-per-view main card.

Overall, the broadcast drew a 1.1 household rating with a 1.6 among men 18-34 and a 1.55 among men 18-49.

Dana might be right about guessing 850,000 buys for the ppv.

The main event was heavily hyped on Espn which is always good and anytime a rivalry is involved it helps.

I'd be f*cking shocked if it did those numbers (850K)

That's what I thought last week, but with those numbers for the free prelims, it's a possibility.

Has there been any kind of precedent set, in terms of a correlationg between the number of viewers they get for a prelim and the number of PPV's they sell?

Despite keeping up with all the fights and everything, I have to admit I haven't been keeping up with PPV sales + ratings, over these last few months. Not like I used to anyway.

Like you I have no idea, I'm sure there is some sort of relation between prelim numbers and ppv buys though.

850k seemed completely insane when I heard that last week, but a lot of casual fans like Rampage.

Not to mention the movie coming out as well.
