Benefits from Teacher

I have 5 teachers, and they all conduct class similarly. With one tearcher, a feeling of well being follows me all day. I cant figure out why. This teacher often begins class with alternate nostril breathing, but I dont know if that alone explains it. Has anyone had one teacher that gives them a feeling like this, but for no clearly obvious reason? Does this suggest anything?

I attend a center that has a different teacher everyday of the week.

monday the teacher will kick your butt, work you hard, but if you break through and find the breath, you will feel a sense of freedom. tuesday is the most packed day and the teacher is very effecient, less time in postures, more results, usaully feel well

wednesday can be kind of like monday

thursday is a woman, more heart openers, less strenous, feels nurturing and graceful

I have not been on friday

saturday is same teacher as wednesay. usually a very packed class and the enrgy gets flowing well because there seems to be a strong group or practicioners.

to say why you feel this way we would only be speculating, on that note my speculation would be the teacher is pretty in tune with themselves. Alternate nostril breathing is supposed to be a pretty strong and beneficial practice and to me starting a class with breathing is a good idea since breathing is one of the most important things we do. sit back and observe the teacher as thoughtless as you can and let the answers reveal themselves to you.

My best to you

I am joy, I am love, I am peace

I am neil

Yes! I agree - each teacher brings something different. From some teachers I learn about anatomy and how my body fits together, other teachers I learn about breath and using that for my own strength. My current teacher moves through a lot of poses in a short time, and I find that I lose track of my breath. In my last class, I realised that I need to be the teacher for me, to take responsibility for my breath, even if the woman at the front of the class is not.

I think it's really valuable to have lots of teachers throughout your yoga life - but you are always your own teacher too!
