Hi,

I never done any yoga and I would love to start doing so.. I know what I'm looking for in a yoga class-

1. meditation

2. relaxation

3. breathing

4. stretching

It's in the order of most importent to least important, but a class that will combine all 4 will be the most sought after.

I'll really appreciate it if you can mention a couple (3-5) of yoga types that could work out for me, I'll then research them and discuss with you my decision.

Thanks.

Uri.

You've confused your practice with its benefits or by products.

Breathing is required.

Relaxation is a result.

Stretching is an action.

Meditation is a practice.

You can find all of these things by taking Tai Chi.

If it is still Yoga that calls to you then you can take just about any sort and also find these things. Though rapid movement for some is relaxing it is not so for other. Similarly no movement is relaxing for some but agitating for others.

Runaround the block 15 times. With "right mind" you will achieve your four things.

I recommend yoga styles based on two opposing forces - safety and effect. Effect means the student's life changes over time.

Obviously I have chosen purna yoga for this reason.

I believe there are some other safe and effective practices. They are ones that are alignment oriented without a teaching dogma.

I would imagine a lot of it depends on what part of the world you are in. In orlando florida most yoga classes I have been to do very little meditation, mostly just postures, some reminders to focus on the breath, and relaxation in corpse pose at the end.

search for instructors in your area and if you really want to do meditation, (many people want more of the xercise part and that is fine) then you may benefit from looking for a meditation group and in that group you may meet people who know of a yoga instructor who teaches a style similar to what it is that you seek. Hope this was of assistance and good luck
