Kundalini Yoga and Second Chakra Sensation

Canguro38842010-07-05 09:50:36 +0000 #1

I've been practising kundalini yoga with a yoga teacher for 2 months. Since then I have returned from overseas and have been practicing at home for around 1 hour daily for the last month.

Over the last few weeks, I have been experiencing some tingling sensation below the navel and around the sex chakra area.

As I breathe through my nose profoundly, I feel the air circulating around the navel area and I feel this kind of arousal for minutes or hours during the day.

I also wake up at the very early hours in the morning with the same tingling sensation and a kind of strong urge.

I cannot say that I'm complaining but I would like to find out what exactly it is and whether this is normal or if it's just in my head?

I have several thoughts to share with you.

The most obvious, from your post, is why you are not soliciting the advice of your Kundalini teacher. There may be logistical reasons (overseas) and that's understandable. Short of that it would be best to inquire of a teacher within the discipline you have selected. The Kundalini discipline is, to say the least, unique.

Second, I don't think two months of Kundalini practice is enough to be turned loose on your own. I say this directly and to the point. It is, in that discipline and many others, simply too soon for you to pop off on your own.

This is exacerbated by the fact that within the Kundalini discipline several pranayama practices are advocated and performed with both frequency and intensity. Some of these can have tremendous effect on the central nervous system. So I am saying they are very, very powerful tools. A chisel in the hands of Michaelangelo is art. The same tool in the hands of Jeffery Dahmer is not.

Activating the energies contained within the chakra system when a) one is untrained in its full use and potential and b) without alignment of the physical body can be...well it can have repercussions. This is not a position held in the Kundalini system.

You may, pragmatically speaking, look at this web site: and scan it's brief outline of the chakra you mention. If there are issues in the subtle bodies for you then certainly work on them. And please do find a teacher to study with.

Thank you for your concern.

I have just come back to Australia from South America. I was with a yogi teacher for 2 months.

I have been practicing the kriyas that I was taught for a month now, practicing 1 hour almost on a daily basis.

It is not my intention to go off by myself because I'm aware of the importance of having a guide. I have not been experimenting any other kriyas and have strictly applied the ones I have learnt while I was overseas.

At the moment I'm unemployed and am starting a business so I unfortunately I cannot afford to do any classes here in Australia which is why I have been practicing what I have learnt until my financial situation improves.

Best regards
