This is a very controversial practice.

Some of the controversy can be attributed to paranoia on the part of the government of China. I'm not sure, however, that they shoulder the burden of the entire controversy.

I personally do not have an opinion one way or the other. I tried the practice briefly a few years ago, mostly for the experience of it.

Here's an interesting interview: with the founder from about seven years ago. The founder, Li Hongzhi, mentions he does not think this should be used for healing. And yet one of the primary "marketing" elements IS healing. In fact the OP above mentions removing illnesss and disease.

A decision to practice, whether it's pranayama or Qi Gong should be an informed decision. Opting to do or to not do are both "okay" when coming from an energetically clean place.

This may be worth looking at in order to make such an informed decsion.

Ultimately, there is no one right truth or answer. It is what works for you, the individual. And therefore this may be for some while it is not for others.
